Friday, August 27, 2010September 10 and 11 Super Special
Looks like no one wants to travel after Labor Day. So we are once again offering our "Super Special" for September 10 and 11, 2010. Stay Friday or Saturday (or both nights), have dinner in our Dining Room, and we will subtract your dinner bill (not including tax and tip) from your room rate up to a 50% discount. For example, you book a room at $150 per night and have dinner, we will subtract up to $75 off of your room rate if you spend at least $75 for dinner.
This special may not be combined with any other specials or packages. See you soon!! Labels: September 10 and 11

Wednesday, August 25, 2010Getting Close To Apple Picking Time
Took a drive by the apple orchard up on Norway Hill and the apples are getting close to being ready to pick. The orchard opens officially on September 1 so if you are visiting, stop by and pick some of the most delicious apples in New England. And if you saunter down to the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, I'm sure you will find freshly pressed apple cider for sale.

Thursday, July 29, 2010Main Street Improvements
The past couple of months have seen lots of activity on Main Street as we are getting new curbs, paths (not sidewalks!!) and eventually a new surface on Main Street. It all started with the installation of a huge underground drainage system, good news for those of you that had to wade the lake in front of the Inn after the tiniest amount of rainfall. After the roadwork is finished the town will be planting new trees to replace many of those damaged during the great ice storm of 2008. Current plans call for the project to be finished by mid-August so if you are coming to Old Home Days, the work should be near completion.

Saturday, June 26, 2010Fireworks in Hancock!!
And I'm not talking about what happened when Ms. K came home unexpectedly and found Mr. K in flagrante delicto with the next door neighbor, I'm talking about real honest to goodness fireworks lighting up the sky over Norway Pond on Friday, July 2. Each year the Town of Hancock puts on a dazzling display on the Fourth of July Weekend and this year I've been told to expect something rather special. So come visit Hancock that weekend and be treated to the sights and sounds of our Fourth of July celebration. Though it may be a little short of the decibel levels from the explosion at the K home!!

Friday, June 11, 2010John Hancock and the Fourth of July
So what do John Hancock and I have in common (other than big loopy handwriting)? Why we are both associated with Hancock, NH of course, me as owner of the Inn, and he, well, here is the story as told around here.
Back in 1779 the people that lived in this area decided that they would form an incorporated town and decided that it might be nice to name it Hancock, after John Hancock. Mr. Hancock was the richest man in New England and in fact owned several hundred acres of land around these parts. So, the people, thought, we name the town after Hancock and he will give us money to help found the town. A delegation was formed and made the trip to Boston to see Mr. Hancock. Apparently they waited in the waiting area outside his office all day but he refused to see them. The delegation was offended and stomped back to Hancock with the bad news. But people in the area still thought it might be a good idea to name the town after Mr. Hancock in the hope that one day he might provide for them. Alas, as far as is known, John Hancock never visited the first town in New England named for him and certainly never gave the town even a farthing. But you can do something that the richest man in New England never did...visit Hancock, NH!! And to make it extra special for you, we are offering a great deal over the Fourth of July weekend, just to rub John Hancock's nose in it one more time!!! Stay two nights over the Fourth of July weekend, eat dinner at the Hancock Inn both nights, and the room rate for the second night will be zero, nada, nothing at all. Two nights for the price of one when you have dinner each night, a deal that might have even made John Hancock come visit for the weekend. Labels: Fourth of July

Friday, June 4, 2010Fun Things to Do This Summer
Summer is rapidly approaching so it's time for us to tell you what is going on this summer in the Hancock area. For those who are culturally inclined (and ain't we all) Monadnock Music has a wonderful summer program. Concerts (including many free ones) are presented throughout the Monadnock region. More information is available at www.monadnockmusic.org. Other musical events include the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in Nelson (www.applehill.org). Live theater with the Peterborough Players begins June 9 and continues through September 26. They have a very interesting lineup of plays which you can find at www.peterboroughplayers.org.
Almost every day of the week you can find a Farmer's Market in one of the area towns. Hancock Farmer's Market is every Saturday from 9AM until Noon. For late sleepers, the Peterborough Farmer's Market is every Wednesday from 3-6PM. Temple is on Sunday from 10AM -1PM. And of course, the outdoor opportunities are endless...hiking trails at the Harris Center, climb Mt. Monadnock, canoe or kayak the lakes and ponds in Hancock (Nubanusit, Willard, Norway, Half Moon, Hunts and Powdermill), blueberry picking at Pitcher Mountain, or for the very intrepid, sit on our front porch with your favorite beverage and watch the world go by.
